Deals with safety: Every lift chair provides a safety bar to prevent people falling off their chairs.

Benefits the Customer: Gets them up the mountain quick and efficiently.

Benefits the employee: Lifties at Jay get a paid half an hour break every hour.

Jay Peak Week 2

This weekend at Jay, i was placed in the water park, Nordic center and the Ice haus. The water park really does not deal with sustainability because of how much water they are using to keep it going. the only way i could see it being sustainable is because they reuse the water over and over again. The water park deals with service by giving the guests somewhere else to go when the are not on the slopes. Everyone in the water park is also very friendly and helpful to the guests. They deal with safety by having life guards everywhere and also have a backboard and a first aid kit on both sides of the water park. the water park benefits the guests again by giving them another fun attraction to go to when they are at Jay Peak. It benefits the employee by giving them a nice warm environment to work in =P The water park benefits the owner by making them lots of money. The next department i was in was the Nordic center. One way the dealt with sustainability there was with the coffee. Instead of dealing with individual creamer packets they used one cup for the whole day. This helps lower the amount of plastic wasted. Nordic deals with service by giving older and younger people who cannot downhill ski the opportunity to get out and get exercise. the deal with safety by providing headlamps during the night tours so everyone can see. Nordic benefits the customer because it gives them another activity to do while at Jay. It benefits the employee because the get to ski or snowshoe whenever they want. It benefits the owner by giving them more variety to their resort. The last department i was in was The Ice Haus. I did not like it here because i seriously sat and did NOTHING. The guy i was supposed to meet was not there. The only way i could see them dealing with sustainability was by recycling their cans. They deal with service by offering rent able equipment to guests. The deal with safety by giving out helmets to skaters. It benefits the guests by giving them another activity to do at the mountain. It benefits the employee by giving them a salary. It benefits the owner by having foreign hockey teams come which might have never and experience Jay Peak.

First week at jay peak

This weekend I was at jay. The first department I was in was guest services. Honestly it was pretty boring because I couldn't do anything but sit there and watch. Any hoo, guest services deals with sustainability by using the RFID cards instead of a new ticket every time. The cards are re loadable so they are wasting less tickets. Guest service obviously deals with serving the guest. They help the guests every way by giving them their tickets, providing a lost and found, and answering any questions. Guest services deals with safety by keeping lost or stolen items safe until their owners come to claim them. Guest services benefits the customer by helping them with any problem they might have. It benefits the employee by giving them a job. It benefits the owner by making the customers happy and providing them help with their questions an problems. The next department i was placed in was food and beverage. I had soo much fun with Barbara Jean and Terry! they were really nice and we pretty much just laughed the whole time! Food and beverage deals with sustainability by recycling all cans and bottles. They deal with service because they help guests get good and yummy food quickly and efficiently. They deal with safety by wearing gloves so they do not contaminate any of the food and keep their hands also clean and safe. Food and beverage benefits the customer by giving them a wide variety of healthy food choices. They benefit the employee by ging them a nice friendly work environment. they benefit the owner, by making them lots of money! All in all i had a good time this weekend!! :)

week 2/10/12 Guest services

This weekend i was placed with guest services. It was really fun and i liked the people i was working with. the customer service desk worked with sustainability by recycling all paper. the customer service desk offers many services such as buying tickets, giving out information, and trail maps of the mountain. Customer service desk deals with safety because if you have any problems they will help you solve them. They also keep lost and found items safe behind the desk so people do not steal your lost items. The customer service desk benefits customers by giving them people to go to when they have a question. Guests can get there questions answered fast and fully by the guest service team. Guest services benefits the employee by giving them a pleasant work environment and letting them be around and make a difference in the guests experience. Bretton Woods lift operations week 3

This weekend I was placed in lifts. It was really fun and I learned alot. When it comes to sustainibility, one way the lift team helps is by recycling fuels used by the lifts. The lifts help with service obviously by getting guests to the top of the mountain safely and efficiently. For safety, each lift provides a safety bar for restraining you from falling off. Lifts benefit the customer again because it transports them where they need to be very fast and comforatably. Lifts benefits the employees by giving them jobs and also giving them a pleasant work environment because everyone is so friendly. The detatchable lifts benefit the owner becuase it gets more people to the top of the mountain faster, resulting in shorter wait lines and less complaints. Overall, lifts were awesome! Everyone was so friendly that I did not even want to leave!!! :)

Bretton Woods hobbits 1/28/212

On Saturday I was in hobbits. Overall, it was really awesome and fun! The hobbit building addressed sustainability one way by recycling the name tags used during the lessons. A lot of name tags are used a day by the kids so that is a lot of plastic. The hobbits center services a lot of kids and families everyday, and makes it more convenient for families to ski. For example, the nursery makes it so parents can ski all day without worrying about their children. Lessons also give kids the chance to learn and make new friends at the same time. When it came to safety one thing stood out. The parents wold have to show these id tags in order to pick p their child. if they did not have one they did not get the kid. This kept the kids safe from being stolen. Hobbits benefits the guests by again allowing them to drop off their kids for a couple hours and have fun skiing alone. This program supports  the employees by giving them a paying job. It is also a very rewarding job getting to see the young ones learn to ski!! Hobbits benefits the owners by obviously making them a lot of money, and also bringing new people into the sport and industry. Overall it was an amazing day. I really had a lot of fun and did not even want to leave! I cant wait to be with lifts next week and learn even more!!

Bretton Woods rental shop 1/20 - 1/21

This weekend i was in the rental shop. It was really awesome, fun and I learned alot! The rental department had a couple ways that dealt with sustainability. One way I saw was that the employees recycled papers. The would sometimes print on the back of papers already used. this would save alot of paper from being used up. The second thing i noticed was that in the rental shop there were 3 recycle bins for bottles. This allowed the resort to recycle all bottles. these bins are important because they prevent people from throwing their bottles everywhere. when it came to service the rental shop deffinately has alot of it. They help people get their equipment either ski or snowboard in a timelt efficient manner. The employees in the rental shop have their own system which works very well to get the customers their equipment as fast as possible. It kind of reminded me of an assembly line. First the customer would go to the computers to put in their information like age, weight, height ect. Then that form would print out at the desk where the customer would pay. Next they were sent to the next counter to pick up their boots. Then to the next counter to get their skiis then off the were. This system was really awesome and easy to understand. When it came to safety rentals really take it seriously. The main thing i noticed was when Tanner an employee was filling out an incident report because some girl got hurt on one of the shops snowboards. this first of all keeps guests safety because they make sure the snowboard did not cause the accident. The report also covers the rental shop and makes sure they are safe from legal actions. it was really awesome seeing how the did this.
The way the rentl shop benefited the guest was by providing them with equipment so they could try skiing or snowboarding. they also give the guests and experience of watching how their skiis and boards are adjusted. the rental shop benefits the employees by first giving them alot of hours to make money, and the also get ride breaks. this means on their breaks they can go take a couple runs for free. the employees really like this!! The rental shop benefits the owner by making them alot of money. because customers can rent equipment anyone can come ski or snowboard. This makes the owners alot more money. Overall the weekend went really awesome! I learned alot and met alot of new great people!! Everyone was so nice and showed me everything i needed to know to work at a rental shop!
